Where materials go
Powerday ensures traceability with its recycling and recovery process with virtually all materials remaining in the UK.
- Recovered soils are used for land restoration projects. A train leaves Old Oak Sidings daily carrying recovered soil to Buckinghamshire for restoration schemes. One train holds the equivalent of 70 lorries making this an extremely environmentally-responsible option.
- Recovered aggregates are used within construction and road building projects in and around London. Where possible, the vehicles that deliver materials for recycling and recovery also take aggregates back to sites for reuse, reducing the environmental impact of transporting waste.
- Recovered wood is graded, chipped then reused in the UK in the manufacture of chipboard or as a biomass fuel.
- Recycled metals are reprocessed in the UK. They are made into hundreds of different recycled products in the place of virgin materials.
- Recycled plastics are reprocessed in the UK, Europe and the Far East. Different grades of plastic are made into different types of pellets and reused in bottle manufacturing, the textiles industry and other manufacturing processes.
- Recycled paper and cardboard are reprocessed in the UK, Europe and the Far East. They are made into a range of recycled paper and card products.
- Renewable fuels are used in a number of UK renewable energy plants replacing fossil fuels. The mix of wastes processed by Powerday allows the company to vary the exact composition of the renewable fuel output to meet different customers’ requirements giving the company flexibility and a stable demand for its product.
