Powerday supports an Olympic Legacy for London Amateur Boxing
Powerday, in partnership with Sport England Sportsmatch, has launched a four year sponsorship deal to finance a London wide youth engagement programme for the London Amateur Boxing Association. This is the first time a region of Amateur Boxing England has received substantial commercial sponsorship.
London Amateur Boxing Association and the 100 plus boxing clubs affiliated to London ABA are having outstanding success in producing four Olympic Champions since 1956 and countless national and international champions. In recognition of their continued achievements, a four year sponsorship deal has been awarded by Powerday and Sport England Sportsmatch to fund a London wide youth engagement programme.
Mick Crossan, Chairman, Powerday, says, “We as a company have always believed in creating, building and supporting local communities. With that ethos, Powerday is delighted to work with the London ABA and Sport England Sportsmatch to give opportunities to young people so that London’s youth can better their life experience.
Boxing is at the heart of London sport. The partnership between Powerday, Sport England Sportsmatch and the London ABA will help London youth build a successful personal future and thus help create a positive legacy for London and Londoners in line with the inspiration provided by the London 2012 Olympics.”
Keith Walters, Chairman, ABA England and Honorary Secretary of London ABA, says, “London ABA often supplies half the national champions in junior and youth boxing, with three of the four Olympic Champions since 1956 coming from right here in North West London.
Finchley’s 21 year old, 6’7” Anthony Joshua (Josh), has already qualified at Super Heavyweight for the 2012 Olympics by winning silver in the recent World Championships. In fact Josh only lost by a single point.
London ABA has long considered it essential to create a programme to engage and accommodate the vast number of enquiries we receive from both young people who want to try the disciplines of boxing training and from top quality young boxers who have Olympic glory on their horizon.
Powerday and Sport England Sportsmatch are making this ground breaking programme possible. London ABA is grateful to Powerday and Sport England Sportsmatch for turning a dream into the reality of an Olympic legacy.”
