Powerday helps Wates Group reduce waste in the supply chain
Groundbreaking recycling and waste management company, Powerday, is working in partnership with Wates Group to deliver their target of zero waste to landfill, not just by recovering 100% of their waste but by helping them reduce the waste they generate in the first place.
Earlier this year North West London based Powerday announced that it had reached its target of 100% recovery following investment in a Lindner Komet 2800 shredding machine that shreds residual materials into an even size for ready-to-use fuel. The company’s nine acre site in Willesden Junction is licensed to process 1.6 million tonnes of waste a year, the equivalent of 8% of London’s waste. Its innovative combination of equipment and customer focused approach provide Wates Group with a service that makes zero waste to landfill a realistic and achievable vision for the family owned construction and development company in London.
Rachel Woolliscroft, Head of Sustainability, Wates Group, says,
“We have been pleased with the scale and efficiency of the operation at Powerday and the service we have received. It is enlightening to be working with likeminded companies committed to diverting waste from landfill.”
Whilst Powerday’s 100% recovery rate is critical to Wates Group achieving the challenging target of zero waste to landfill in London, the company’s robust recycling performance reporting is having a wider impact on waste reduction in the supply chain and the benefits are seen not just in resource efficiency but also in cost efficiency.
Paul Elliot, Supply Chain Manager, Wates Group says,
“The use of waste data from Powerday is helping us identify and eliminate materials from the supply chain that aren’t recyclable or wasted unnecessarily. This aspect of supply chain management, along with the development of facilities like Powerday’s across the whole country, will help determine whether zero waste to landfill is achievable nationwide.”
Mick Crossan, Managing Director, Powerday says,
“At Powerday our core principle is 100% recovery from waste, we want to see an end to London’s reliance on landfill and can only achieve this by working with forward-thinking and environmentally responsible companies like Wates Group.”
