Powerday awarded Heathrow contract

Powerday has been awarded a three year contract from Wilson James for the construction waste arising at one of the world’s busiest airports.

Wilson James, is one of the UK’s leading providers of logistics and logistic consultancy to the construction and aviation industries, long established at Heathrow Airport they have been a key delivery partner to BAA during recent development and improvement of the airport’s facilities, including the build of Terminal 5. Wilson James is now supporting BAA as their Construction Logistic Integrator, providing service to all projects on the airport. These include construction of the new Terminal 2, two new mid field piers and new baggage handling facilities, involving £900million of investment each year to 2013. Handling the waste for these projects, in the middle of the world’s busiest international hub airport, provides a most demanding challenge; security and operational restrictions are very rigorous.

Along with the usual construction waste arising, Powerday will be handling COSHH waste and waste from welfare facilities including cess and food. Some waste will be segregated on site, but where space is limited materials will be segregated by Powerday. Initially waste will be handled at Powerday’s eight acre site at Old Oak Sidings, North West London but subject to planning permission, in future materials will be segregated at Powerday’s 27 acre West Drayton site on the Airport’s doorstep in the London Borough of Hillingdon.

Robin Moore, Head of Construction Logistics Integration, Wilson James says: “We are very pleased to be working with Powerday at Heathrow. Their unparalleled environmental performance and 24 hour, seven day a week operational capability will allow us to deliver the high level of service needed to support the projects on Heathrow, which is one of the country’s most important and fragile economic assets.”

Simon Little, Sales & Marketing Director at Powerday says: “We are delighted to have won this prestigious contract. We already have 75 bins onsite and our Contract Support Team is working closely with Wilson James to deliver a first class service package”.
