Powerday appoints new Managing Director

Powerday has appointed Mark Bensted from British Waterways as its new Managing Director. Mark takes over from current Managing Director and Owner Mick Crossan in a move that reflects Powerday’s significant investment and huge success in recent years.

Mark joins Powerday from British Waterways where as London Director since 1990 he has overseen the Company’s operational, property, leisure and regeneration activities across the Capital. Mark has operated nationally as Director of Regeneration for British Waterways since 2009. Prior to joining British Waterways, Mark worked in both design and construction capacities within the construction industry for Taylor Woodrow and Kyle Stewart.

Mark’s former roles have seen him work closely with the recycling and waste management sector and in particular with Powerday whose Old Oak Sidings site is located within a 26 mile lock-free section of the Grand Union Canal. “This is a huge and rapidly changing sector” says Mark, “where the value of waste is now very much a driver for the industry as is wider society’s demand to manage its waste in a more sustainable manner. Powerday has recognised this shift and is now very much at the forefront of this change which is why I’ve jumped at the opportunity to join a major player in the industry.”

Mark, who joins Powerday in early May, continues; “I’m extremely pleased to be joining and heading up the Powerday team. I very much admire the ‘can do’ ethos so evident within the team. I believe it is an exciting time to join one of London’s largest and most dynamic recycling and waste management companies and I look forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead, as well as working closely with Mick and the team”.

Mark’s appointment sees current Managing Director and Founder Mick Crossan move into the role of Chairman where he will focus his attention on the development of a new Eco Park in west London which will double Powerday’s recycling and waste management capacity.

Mick says: “I am delighted to welcome Mark to Powerday. I believe the skills and experience he brings will be invaluable in leading Powerday’s ambitious expansion plans and will very much help us grow the Company’s business.”
