Finalist for the National Recycling Awards 2009
Finalist for the prestigious Recycling and Waste Management Business of the Year prize at the 2009 National Recycling Awards, Powerday, has been recognised for its role in driving forward environmental best practice in the waste management arena.
Over 170 entries, from across UK industry and the public sector were received and the judges whittled these down to a shortlist. Commenting on the nomination, MRW editor and member of the jury Paul Sanderson said: “The National Recycling Awards have been going for over ten years now and year after year the standard of entries gets higher. It was really difficult for the judges and myself to pick finalists, never mind winners!”
Powerday's Materials Recycling Facility (MRF), the largest in the south of England, saw the company become a contender to win one of the UK's most coveted environmental awards. Powerday was shortlisted because of the operational capacity of its site in Willesden Junction (which can take 8% of London’s waste) and projected future developments which prove Powerday’s high performance and growth. A total investment of £5 million in reprocessing machinery and engineering made it evident to the jury that Powerday is committed to pioneering, innovative and unique approaches to waste management.
Mick Crossan, Managing Director, Powerday says, “At Powerday, we think it is fantastic to have gained recognition with such a prestigious award at a national level. It is testament not only to all the hard work that we have put in but also the way in which customers have played their part in making our recycling and recovery service such a success.”
